Overview

ISO 14001 is the international standard for an Environmental Management System (EMS). ISO 14001 is the international standard for environmental management systems published by the International Organization for Standardization. Certification to ISO 14001 demonstrates that you identify and manage your environmental responsibilities, meet your legal and regulatory compliance obligations, and commit to continuous improvement in environmental performance.

We implement the EMS: the environmental aspects and impacts assessment to identify where your operations touch the environment, the compliance obligations register covering relevant legislation and other requirements, the environmental objectives and operational controls that support them, and the internal audit and management review. Implementing the standard requires top management commitment and a governance structure that keeps environmental responsibilities visible across business units. We then prepare you for the ISO 14001 certification process: the Stage 1 documentation review and Stage 2 on-site audit conducted by our partner certification body, accredited by an IAF MLA signatory.

ISO 14001 is not only for heavy industry. Technology companies, professional services firms, and managed service providers increasingly face it as a tender requirement or a condition of enterprise supply-chain membership. The ISO 14001 standard uses the same Annex SL high-level structure as ISO 9001, ISO 27001, and ISO 45001, which makes integrated management systems practical for organisations already certified to one of those ISO standards. How we work

1. 01
   Environmental aspects and compliance obligations

   We identify your significant environmental aspects and impacts and build the compliance obligations register covering applicable legislation, permits, and other requirements. This is the foundation the rest of the EMS rests on. The ISO 14001 requirements include assessing risks and opportunities connected to each significant aspect, not just documenting impacts.

2. 02
   Build the EMS

   We set environmental objectives aligned to your significant aspects, define the operational controls, and produce the documented management system the standard requires. Continuous improvement and improve environmental performance commitments are built into the objectives and monitored through management reviews. Senior management visibility of environmental performance data is a specific requirement of the standard.

3. 03
   Internal audit and management review

   We conduct the internal audit and management review and close findings before the certification audit. The auditor from the certification body reviews a functioning system with evidence, not a set of aspirational policies. Management reviews confirm that top management is actively engaged with environmental performance, which the auditor will verify.

4. 04
   Certification audit

   Our partner certification body, accredited by an IAF MLA signatory, conducts the Stage 1 documentation review and Stage 2 on-site audit. We support you throughout and manage corrective actions through to closure. ISO 14001 certification is valid for three years, with surveillance audits in years one and two. We can also support the recertification audit at the end of the three-year cycle.
